HAROLD GEORGE LAMBERT
2 JAN 1913 - 1 MAY 2002

14th BRIGADE 47 COLUMN 7th BATTALION LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT

On May 13th 1944
"The Japanese patrol sent to look for the Chindits on the other side of the valley had a stroke of luck. It surprised the Leicesters No. 47 Column in its evening bivouac. Two Officers, a Sergeant Major and 6 Privates were killed. 13 men wounded and 5 were missing"
(The Chindit War, Shelford Bidwell)

Harold George Lambert was one of the wounded, shot through the leg. He was lucky he could still walk, if not he may have been left behind. Two days later he was rescued by Chindits of the West African Brigade and evacuated to India
